Cellulosic Painting: A Living Medium
Since 2020, I have been exploring cellulosic paint on panel and aluminium — a medium that captures light differently, vibrating and transforming depending on the angle of view.
Cellulosic paint is not a common medium in contemporary art. Originally derived from the automotive industry, it has unique qualities: exceptional luminosity, unmatched chromatic depth, and a surface that seems to live and breathe according to the ambient light.
My discovery of this medium dates back to 2020, during a period of intense research during lockdown. I was looking for something that would match my inner evolution — a matter capable of capturing not only visible light, but also suggesting the invisible.
The technique demands great mastery: each layer must dry perfectly before the next is applied. Too much moisture, and the surface clouds over. The working time stretches over several days for a single piece. But it is precisely this slowness that gives the painting its depth.
